Tuesday Tales – Sand

Welcome to this weeks Tuesday Tales to the word prompt sand.  Thanks for stopping by.

Lisa took the envelope out of Pia’s hand.  Sliding the paper out, she held it between her fingers shaking her head back and forth.  “No way.”  Pointing at the paper, “Are you sure?”

“Sure as a hell, down to the raised seal.”

Pia kept her eyes on Lisa as she ran her fingers along the raised circular seal.   “Damn are you screwed.”

“No kidding Sherlock.  That’s why I need your help.”

“I don’t understand how this happened and why you would wait four years to address this?”

“I know. I just didn’t want to accept it.  I filed it into the back of my mind.  I didn’t want to believe I could be such a fool to let Larry trick me into marrying him.” Pia sat down on the sand colored sectional couch in the living room, covering her face with her hands.

“Don’t even go there with that crying shit.  I need to know all the facts if I am going to help you,” Lisa said sitting down next to her.  “My first question is, how could you have kept this secret from me?  I can’t believe you didn’t confide in me.”

“I’m sorry.  I have never been so embarrassed in my whole life.  I let that bastard get over on me.”

“So I see.  But now, we have to get you out of this as quickly and quietly as possible. “

“Lisa, I don’t want to ruin my relationship with Lorenzo.  I know this would be the deal breaker.”

“I don’t think he would drop you and toss you aside because of something that happened years ago.”

“He’s a ballplayer, and a very good one.  I don’t think he wants to be involved in my drama and controversy.”

“I’m going to see if I can catch a plane out to Vegas in the morning, see what I can find out.  In the meantime, I need for you to keep it together.”

Pia didn’t say anything because she didn’t have any answers for her.  If anyone could help her it would be Lisa.  Since she had started practicing law, she took on the hopeless cases, the ones nobody wanted to deal with.  In seventy-five percent of those cases, she found a resolution.  This would just be another hopeless case added to the list.

“I will do my best.  I don’t like lying to Lorenzo.”

“Let me see what I come up with.  But this is something you have to eventually tell him.  You’re right.  You can’t be in a relationship built on lies.  Hold off until I come back.”

Pia shook her head in agreement.  “Coffee?” she asked standing.

“On the stove.”

“And the Sambuca?”

“Where it always is, under the sink behind the box of Brillo.”

Tuesday Tales - Spider

Welcome to this weeks Tuesday Tales to the word prompt Spider. Pia has gotten herself into some situation.  And it continues...

Pia’s heart palpitated as she ran to her car. The two envelopes dug into her butt cheeks so badly, she had to pull over a few blocks away from her house.  Releasing the button on the side of the seat, she pushed it back in order to lean forward and grabbed the two envelopes out of her pants, placing them on the dashboard facing her.

Fifteen minutes later, she still stared at the two envelopes marked Mr. and Mrs. Larry Wildes.  Glancing up at the windshield, she spotted a black spider the size of a quarter staring down at her.  Pia blinked her eyes and shook her head, hoping the spider wasn’t a bad sign.

Reaching for the first envelope, she opened the flap and slipped the papers out.  Her eyes scanned down the page.  By the time she got to the end, the papers fell from her hands.  “That bastard,” she screamed, banging her hands on the steering wheel.   Returning to the first page, she read again, Life Insurance Policy Pia Wildes.  Flipping through the papers, she stopped and read the heading of the second set of stapled papers, Life Insurance Policy for Lawrence Wildes.

Pia took a deep breath.  She reached out for the second envelope still sitting on the dashboard.  Her heart raced as she slid the single paper out of the envelope, Certificate of Marriage in the State of Nevada.  That paper also dropped from her hand.  This was a nightmare in the making.  How could she have been so stupid in not following up on this from day one?  Choosing to ignore things was going to make it harder to annul the marriage.

Lorenzo would be home from his road trip in a week and a half, so time would be limited.  She needed help.  Pulling her car seat back up, she reattached her seatbelt and drove to her best friend Lisa’s house.  After Lisa got over the initial shock, she would ball her out for keeping something like this from her, and then she would march into action to help her.

Pia walked around back and knocked on the back door.  Lisa opened the door and hugged her.

“What’s wrong?  You are so pale and your right eye is twitching.”

“I have a big problem.”  Pia handed her the envelopes.  “I’m married and I need your help to get me out of it.

Tuesday Tales – Picture Prompt Red Box

Welcome to our monthly picture prompt edition of Tuesday Tales.  With this being Valentine Day week, lets take a  look and see what our authors have put into their little red boxes.  Happy Valentine Day to everyone!

Lorenzo stood outside a jewelry shop on Rodeo Drive.  After this set of games in Los Angeles, there was a two game series in San Diego before he returned home.  He wanted to buy something special for Pia.

Walking around the shop, he knew this feat would be a tough one.  He didn’t know her that long, and didn’t want to buy her something, which would make her feel uncomfortable.

The first thing he looked at were a pair diamond earrings.  The pair he picked was gorgeous, but inappropriate being such an expensive gift so early in their relationship.  He wanted to choose something that let Pia know he saw deep within her heart.

After walking around the store for close to a half hour, and looking at close to three dozen pieces, he narrowed it down to a sterling silver heart and earrings.  The moment he saw the heart, he knew Pia would fall in love with it, and the earrings, matched the necklace.  It was just right without going over the top, which could possibly lead to turning her off.

Lorenzo had spoken to her twice a day since he left on the road trip.  She seemed fine up until the last two days where she sounded distant.  He couldn’t put his finger on it.  She said nothing was wrong, but he heard something odd in her tone.  He assured her that he missed her and couldn’t wait to come home and hold her in his arms.

“I’m ready,” he said to the short stocky gentleman behind the counter.

“What did you decide on?”

“The heart and earrings.  If you don’t mind, I’d like if you place it in a red box.”

“Sure thing.”

Tuesday Tales – Silver

Welcome to this weeks Tuesday Tales to the word prompt Silver.  Thanks for stopping by.   Pia seems to have gotten herself in a pickle for ignoring a situation that she didn't want to involved in.  Here's her situation.

Pia sat cross-legged on her bed looking at all the proof.  What didn’t she understand? This just wasn’t a random event that had happened.  This was real.   But why couldn’t she remember that night at all.

Not to face the truth, she took that night as a hoax, a game Larry was playing with her to drive her crazy.  The funny past was, she never went to bed with him.  He swore they consummated their marriage that night.  How could she be such a fool in not checking out his accusations? The last time she looked at these documents was when they got home. No doubt, these documents were authentic.  Now, she would have to figure out how to annul this farce of a marriage, four years later.

Larry kept getting her drinks.  But what he didn’t know was when he turned his back, she would spill it out in the planter next to her lounge chair by the pool.  Even while they walked the strip, she would spill out her drink as they went along.  The only thing she fully drank was the bottle of diet soda he bought her.  Then she remembered, when he handed her the bottle it was open.  Larry told her not to worry since he opened it for her.  That had to be it.  That’s why she couldn’t remember a single thing from her last sip of diet soda until waking up in Larry’s bed the next morning.

Now she needed help.  She hadn’t confided in anyone about what had happened in Vegas.  To this day, she still couldn’t believe Larry would do something so devious.  Then she remembered, the envelope that came in the mail at the office, the one he pulled out of her hand and stuffed into the locked drawer of his desk.  The envelope she was going to get.

Dressing in black pants and shirt, she tied her hair back in a ponytail and clipped it on top of her head.  In her bottom drawer of her dresser, she pulled out a black goobalini and tucked her hair under it.  It was a quick ride to the office.  She opened the door, and walked into the dark office with a flashlight.  Larry lived a few blocks away, and she didn’t want him to question why she was in the office at eleven o’clock at night.

Pia knelt down in front of the desk drawer, tried to open it and of course it is locked.  Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out the miniature tool kit.  She played around with the lock with different sized silver tools for over fifteen minutes before it opened.

Quickly she riffled through the drawer with her gloved hands, until she found two envelopes, which were stamped, personal and confidential.  She folded the thick envelopes and slid them down the back of her pants.  Closing the drawer, she played with the lock and by chance she got it locked.

She glanced both envelopes, which were made out to Mr. Larry Wildes and Mrs. Pia Wildes.
