Tuesday Tales - Word Prompt - Ruthless

Welcome to Tuesday Tales.  I've been away for a while, but now I'm back.  This is an excerpt from my WIP From Me To You.  It's about two women who are going through divorces and starting over.  This is where I had left off where Sophia finds out who are husband is cheating her her with.

“I took the walky-talky part of it and sat outside in the car around the corner listening to see if anything was taking place.  I did this for close to a week.  Just when I thought I imaged things and was going to throw out the monitor, something told me to check it out one last time.”
Tears began filling Sophia’s eyes as she sat on the edge of her bed.  Erika grabbed a few tissues out of the box and handed them to her.  Erika broke down twice in a day was something she never expected.  Erika started to feel bad about moving away, not being able to be there for Sophia like she was for her, but there was no turning back.
Sophia stopped crying and her sadness turned into rage. She turned around, blew her nose and faced Erika.  “I was ruthless as I sat around the corner in front of Betty’s house. I ready to shut the walky-talky
off when my cell phone rang.  I spoke to the receptionist from work and became distasted when I heard Brian’s voice come over the walky-talky.  I hung up and listened as he spoke.  I tried to figure out the other voice...it sounded so familiar...but it couldn’t be...I didn’t want it to be.”
“Who was he with?”
“I don’t know how to tell you, or even how to describe the way I felt when
I realized who the mystery person was.  How could I have been so damn stupid not to realize it?”
“You are not stupid.  You are a kind and loving person.  You always trusted people and always found the good in everyone.”
“Erika you don’t get it, do you?”
“No.  I guess I’m the one being stupid,” Erika said crossing her arms, fearing the worst.
“My husband is having an affair with another man.”
Erika’s mouth dropped open.  She didn’t know what to say or how to process the information Sophia just revealed.  Could it be she misunderstood what she said?
“By the look on your face, I can assure you that you did not misinterpret what I said.  And the sad part is they were carrying on inside the house while I was sitting outside with his wife.”
“His wife?”
“Yeah.  Can you believe it?  You know them, the couple he always invites over on a Sunday, Will and his wife Bev.”

“I can’t believe it.”
“Neither can I.”
Tears welled in Sophia’s eyes again.  Erika took a tissue packet out of her pocket, grabbed a tissue and wiped away her tears.
“Don’t worry, we’ll figure something out together, just like you did for me.”
“I would feel so much better if he was cheating on me with another woman, but a man, how embarrassing.”
“Listen, no one needs to know the truth but you and me.”
“I know.  Now I have to figure out what to do.”

Tuesday Tales - Bottom

Welcome to this weeks Tuesday Tales to the word prompt bottom.  This is the continual story of my WIP From Me to You.

“Please Sophia tell me what’s going on.”
“Come on, follow me up to my bedroom. I will be better able to explain what’s going on.”
Erika walked close behind and followed her into the bedroom.  Sophia stood in front of the walk-in closet, opened the door and walked in.  Erika leaned against the door and Sophia stood with the monitor in her hand.
“You see, I planted it here.” She pointed to the floor, moved the shoebox to the side, and placed the monitor back on the floor.  “The plug is over here behind the shoe rack so there was no way he could see it. Besides,” she said waving her hands, “he never walks into my closet.”

“Okay.  And I still don’t understand what the baby monitor has to do with anything.”
Erika grabbed the last few tissues from the bottom of the box and handed them to her.  Erika broke down twice in a day was something she never expected.  Erika started to feel bad about moving away, not being able to be there for Sophia like she was for her, but there was no turning back.

Tuesday Tales Picture Prompt

The restaurant was vacant when he walked in.  Earlier he had called the Bayou asking if he could drop off a bag for later on that evening when he came back in with his girlfriend.  Reaching into the bag, he took out a wrapped box, and carefully placed it under the table in the back of the restaurant at a table near the lit fireplace.

A few hours later, Suzie and Charlie arrived for their dinner reservation. When Charlie said they were going to the Bayou, she wore her black and ivory dress to the Mardi Gras theme restaurant.

The waitress led them to the table in the back.  Once they were seated Charlie ordered a bottle of Presecco.  Within minutes, the waitress was back and popped opened the Italian champagne.  From the moment the champagne touched her lips, she feel in love with the sweet bubbly taste.

Suzie looked at the menu, which was handed open to her.  The first thing she spotted was a hummus appetizer.  When the  waiter returned Charlie order the hummus appetizer for two.  While they waited for the appetizer to come, Charlie handed her the gold box that he had the waitress hide under the table before they got there.

“What’s this?”

“Just a little something.”

“I’m so excited,” Suzie excitedly said.  “I haven’t gotten a gift in a very long time.”

“Go ahead unwrap it.”

Suzie untied the gold ribbon and carefully took the red paper off.  She opened the top of the box and inside was a small gift bag amongst all the tissue paper.  She took the bag out, reached in and took out a ring box.  As she opened it, Charlie went down on his knee.

“Suzie, will you marry me?”

Without hesitation Suzie answered, “Yes.”

He slid the ring on her finger, sealing the proposal with a kiss.
