Tuesday Tales - Dress

Billy played with the key in the lock. It was raining so hard that the umbrella Alexandra held over Billy’s head blew inside out. By the time Billy pushed the door open they were both soaking wet, and smelled like wet sponge. Billy turned the alarm off and switched on the lights.

“Surprise!” Billy leaned over and scooped Alexandra into his arms and carried her in. Pivoting on the heels of his feet, he showed her the full view of the café before putting her down in the center of the room.

“When did you have a chance to do this?” Alexandra asked walking around the room. “The floors are magnificent.” She knelt down on the floor and leaned over using the floor as a mirror. “I can see my reflection.”

“I love your excitement. But don’t use it all just yet. I’ve been coming here working into the wee hours of the morning.” Billy took her hand and outlined her lips with his free hand.

“You keep on amazing me each and every day. Whenever I begin to question our relationship, you go and do something to blow my mind, causing me to fall deeper in love with you.”

“I do these things, not because I’m trying to buy your love, but because I love seeing the excitement in your eyes. And knowing it’s the little things that make you happy.”

“You’re right.” Alexandra gave him a kiss and firmly gripped his hand.

“Are you ready to see the rest?”

“Yeah.” Looking up she pointed to the tiffany style light that hung from the ceiling. “I love it. So original.”

“Thank you. I thought they would give the perfect vintage look.”

“They do.” Walking across the room, Alexandra stopped at the pile of table and chairs that were against the wall. “What are these?”

“I found them downstairs in the basement. I wanted you to take a look at them and see if you think they are workable.”

The rectangular tables had thick legs and a four inch solid top made out of mahogany. The tables were rectangular and round. Knocking on the top she shook her head in approval.

“The tables are perfect.”

“How about while you go check out the kitchen and I’ll set up a couple of tables. Once they are set up, I’ll let you dress them with the navy and beige linens I bought.”

“The ones you surprised me with along with the dishes?” she asked placing her hands on her hips.

“Those are it.”

“Are you telling me that I was your guinea pig?”

“Absolutely,” he chuckled. “Now go ahead. Check out the kitchen.”

Alexandra walked across the room to the long bar and ran her fingers along the shiny mahogany top. Thinking about it for a few moments, she’d thought maybe they should consider putting a glass top or Formica over the wood to preserve the wood; just something to think about.

Pushing open the doors, she gasped and covered her mouth with her hands. The once dirty, grease infected kitchen shined. The stainless steel stoves and ovens were shining, like they were brand new. And the once black floor was now snow white. It seemed that those nights when she let her mind run wild with thoughts he was cheating on her, he was at the café scrubbing away.

A carousel of shiny pots hung above the workstation. It amazed Alexandra, how much Billy did without her knowing. He had told her when they signed the bank papers that he didn’t want her doing any of the dirty work. He just wanted her to work on the public relations end.

“So what do you think?”

Alexandra turned and Billy stood in the doorway grinning at her.

“I can’t believe what you did here. If I didn’t know better, I would have thought you went out and bought brand new pots.”

“But that’s where you’re wrong.” Billy opened one of the cabinets and took out a frying pan. “This baby was the only pan I couldn’t get clean. And the only pan I replaced.”

Alexandra took the pan from his hand. It looked like something burned big time in it. Billy did get the sides of the pan clean, but the middle remained black.

“I’m so proud of you for not taking the easy way out.” Pointing to herself, “I personally would have said screw it and purchased new pots and pans.”

“I didn’t want to spend money unnecessarily. I figured if I could salvage it, then it was worth the effort to clean it. Come here.” Billy opened the big pantry closet, which had multiple shelves. “As you can see,” he tapped the label on the shelf, “I cleaned out the closets and labeled everything making it easier to take inventory when we need to order.”

“I can’t believe you Billy. Why didn’t you tell me you were doing this? I wanted to help you get the place together.”

“I didn’t want to bother you with the little things, especially since you are still working. I spend most of the day while you were at work cleaning and setting up. But don’t worry. There are still plenty of things that need to be done. Come on let me show you.”

Alexandra followed Billy back out into the dining area. While she looked around the kitchen, Billy had set up half a dozen tables.

“What do you think about the way I set up the tables? I really don’t like tables up against the wall.”

“I agree. I love the set up.” Walking around the room she stood in the back of the room near the kitchen. “I think we should set up one big table here. That will encourage people to come with their friends.”

“Let’s do it.”

Billy and Alexandra moved the tables round until they had three rectangular tables together.

“I’ll be right back.”

Billy disappeared into the room off the bar, which they agreed they would use as their office. Before she could investigate the counter where a brand new cappuccino machine sat, Billy reappeared with the shopping bags.

“Here you go.” He handed her the two bags. “Go ahead and dress two of the tables. I’m dying to see what you are going to do with them.”

“I’m sure you’ll be quite surprised.”

Tuesday Tales - Cheating

Alexandra stood outside Dan’s front door. This was the last thing she expected to be doing. When she said goodbye to Dan two years ago, she had closed the door to that part of her life. In the beginning he was great, but the more she got to know him, the more she knew he wasn’t the one for her. The worst part came when she had to let him go from his job. No one had her job knew that they were dating, which was prohibited. What could he possibly want from her now?

The night before she wanted to tell Billy about Dan. She had nothing to hide, but she felt that the past should stay in the past. No sense in bringing up something that had taken place so long ago. Besides, Billy had given her the best Valentine’s ever and she wasn’t going to let anything ruin it.

Alexandra knocked on the door, anxious to get this visit over and done with. Dan opened the mahogany front door and looked at Alexandra with a smirk on his face.

“I’m here. Wipe that smirk off you face and tell me what the urgency of seeing me here this morning is all about.”

“Calm down Alex. I just want to talk to you, catch up a bit.” He stepped away from the door. “Why don’t you come in? I put up a pot of your favorite coffee.”

Her body cringed. She hated when he called her Alex, but she’d let that go, for not. “Coffee is coffee.” Alexandra walked in with Dan following behind. Pivoting on her feet, she faced him. “I don’t have much time. What is it that you want?”

“The problem that I’m faced with is since you fired me from my job, I haven’t been able to find any steady work.” Dan folded his arms and leaned against the living room doorway.

“I repeatedly told you I’m sorry that I had to fire you. I had no choice.”

Dan covered his mouth with his index finger. “Hmm… I see.” Hesitating for a moment he pointed at her. “My life has been a living hell since that day. You owe me Alex.”

“I don’t owe you anything. I….”

“Yes you do. I think Mr. Jumel would be quite intrigued when the truth is revealed that we carried on a three and a half year relationship while we were both employed by him.

“I don’t think so Dan.” Alexandra walked to the front door. “I will not let you intimidate or mar my reputation. I don’t get what you want from me?”

Alexandra’s hand covered the doorknob. Right before she opened it, she turned to face him. Dan stood in place, his arms folded above his stomach stoned faced.

“Go ahead and run. You are good like that.”

“I am so over you. Just for a second I tried to remember what went wrong with us, “ she pointed at him than back to herself, “but now I remember. You were nothing but a control freak, thinking you were indestructible.”

“You are wrong.”

“No, I am right. I warned you when I suspected that you were cheating the company that if you didn’t get back on track you were going to get fired.”

“You let me go down with the ship. I loved you. I would have given you the world. I just needed to be financially secure before I took our relationship to the next level.”

“By cheating people.” Shaking her head, “Apparently you really didn’t know me. All I ever wanted from you was love and affection.”

“No. You wanted more. I felt it. I saw the way you looked at your friends, the ones that lived up on Todt Hill in the huge mansions. I know that’s what you want.”

“You are so off.” Alexandra opened the door, “Please, don’t call me again. If you feel the need to tell Mr. Jumel, then be my guest. I’m not going to stop you.
"
“You wait and …”

Alexandra slammed the door. Once she pulled away she knew what she needed to do.

Billy opened the door. “Hey Babe. I didn’t expect you.”

Alexandra hugged him, holding on to him for a few minutes before kissing him. “I need to speak to you about something that happened.”

“Sit down. What can I get you?”

“Nothing.” Alexandra tapped the couch. “Come sit. I think there are a few things I need to tell you.”

Alexandra dropped her eyes to her lap. This was the last thing she expected to be doing. She was a firm believer in leaving the past in the past, but it would be better if she filled Billy in on what Dan had presented her. Billy eventually sat down, only after bringing her a cup of hot chocolate and a hot chocolate scone.

“Fresh out of the oven.”

“Thank you. I feel like I’m in a chocolate factory. I couldn’t ask for a better greeting.”

“Go ahead, take a bite and let me know if it is menu worthy.”

Alexandra took a bite, a bit bigger than usual and circled her tongue along her lips. “This is so good,” she held up the other half, “I bet it will be our best seller.”

“I was thinking the same thing.”

Alexandra placed her dish on the cocktail table. She crossed her legs and leaned forward. “Two years ago I broke up with a man that I had been dating for quite some time.” Carefully, she choose her words, not feeling it necessary to give him too much detail. “Last night he contacted me and I went to see him this morning.”

Billy stood, slid his hands in his front pocket and rocked on the heels on his feet. Silence filled the room. Alexandra waited for Billy to speak, as she was certain he needed time to get his thoughts together.

“And you’re telling me this because?”

“He’s threatening to tell my boss that we were dating while we worked together. I don’t trust him and I just wanted to tell you about the encounter.”

“And what was the outcome.”

“I told him I didn’t care.” Alexandra walked over to Billy and took his hands in hers. “My fear was that he’d contact you, trying to ruin us. My job, I can handle.”

Billy reached up, took her face between his hands and kissed her forehead. “I would never let anything come between us. And as far as your job goes, if we are going to be owners and running a café, I don’t think you’re going to have time to work.”

“I feel skeptical. We need a backup plan. What if it doesn’t work? Neither one of us will have a job.”

“We are in this together. If you feel better, ask your boss for a six month leave of absence. That will give us enough of time to see if it’s going to work.”

“Boy, are you optimistic. Most businesses don’t start seeing revenue for years.”

“Baby with you by my side, we are going to succeed. You just wait and see.”

A Valentine’s Day Celebration of Love

Love can show up in some of the most peculiar places,
when you least expect it.
Sometimes it’s right there in front of you
with obstacles standing in its way.
That night, when you appeared in front of me
I knew what needed to be done.
It took many days to open up
be willing to take that chance, letting you into my life,
never realizing it would be a life changing.

As our relationship grows, so do my feelings.
The walls I had up, start to slowly deteriorate.
Feelings I thought had died come back to life.
My passion ignites, my heart radiates.
Love takes over my life.

Some days love comes easy,
others you have to work hard at it.
Being with you is the easy part,
the part I love the best.
Since you’ve been a part of my life,
I have come alive, my life full of love and happiness.

I never thought I’d fall in love again.
I thought my life was over and then came you.
We are good for each other
balancing our lives together as one.

You make me happy and I know you feel the same.
We’ve become best friends and lovers.
Even though we have differences,
we are loyal and dedicated to one another.

In the past I let loneliness take over my life
secluding me from the rest of the world.
Now I feel peace and love
and will do everything in my power to keep it intact.

No one can predict the future or know where things will go.
But having you by my side I know that love will always be a part of my life.

Valentine’s Day

No words can describe
how I feel inside.
Since I met you,
time has stood still,
and my life has been full of sunshine.
I always knew that there was a pot of gold
on the other side of the rainbow
and that is you.
You have been my inspiration,
encouraging me to achieve my goals,
showing me that you care.
Through my eyes,
I see a loving and caring man,
one that is perfect.
You are a rare jewel
that was sent to me by an angel.
I thank the heavens above,
for showing me the light,
bringing you into my life.

Thank you for stopping by.

Tuesday Tales - Heart

With a romantic Valentine’s Day dinner behind them, Alexandra and Billy returned to Billy’s house to work on the menu. Billy opened his front door and Alexandra gasped when she walked in. Soft music played and in the living room was multiple bouquets of heart shaped balloons and about four dozen red, pink and white roses.

“Billy, this is gorgeous.” Alexandra walked around the room looking at all the personalized writing on the balloons. “I’m amazed. You have made this the best Valentine’s Day ever for me.”

“I just want you to know you mean the world to me.” He reached his hand out to her. “Come here. There’s still more.”

Alexandra took his hand and he led her to the couch facing the fireplace. To the left of the fireplace was a huge easel covered by a black sheet.

“What’s going on here?”

“You’ll see in a few minutes. Just give me a few more minutes to set everything up,” he said, lighting the candles on the table and throwing a few more piece of wood into the fireplace.

“You’re up to no good. Should I close my eyes and give you a chance to get into your black silk boxers, the ones that totally turn me on.”

Billy leaned over and kissed her lips. “Nope. That’s for later on. We’ll have the rest of the night to make love and talk about sweet nothings. But for the time being, I want you to see what I’ve been working on every night after I drop you off.”

Alexandra sat back and crossed her legs. “Now that you got me all curious, are you going to tell me what you’ve been doing.”

“I’m not going to tell you. I’m going to show you.” Billy walked next to the easel and pulled the sheet off to expose multiple poster boards. “The first one shows what I envision the outside of the café to look like.”

Alexandra uncrossed her legs and leaned forward. “I love the way you left the old fashioned storefront. It’s what makes the café look so quaint. I also love the navy blue and tan sign.”

“I left the sign blank until we come up with the perfect name.” He lifted up the board and exposed the inside of the café. He pointed, “I think keeping the original wooden floors adds to the vintage look we spoke about. What do you think?”

“Can you pass me the picture?”

Billy handed her the picture and sat down next to her. “I think that keeping the building’s vintage look will attract more people.” Turning the picture over. “Now if you look at this side, I’d like to keep the mahogany bar and use it as a coffee bar and also offer people to sit around and have a latte and appetizers.”

“I think we can also fit table along the wall and another row in the middle. In the back of the café, we can use if there is a large party.”

“I went into the building again, and this time I had the real estate agent take me down into the basement.”

“I didn’t go down there. The agent told me there’s nothing down there.”

“Oh how wrong the agent was. After walking down the dingy steps, the agent turned on the light switch and there was another room large enough for a party, where there was a pizza oven and spiral staircase. I walked up the stairs to locked door. ” Billy stood and walked back over to the easel. “Remember when you questioned the agent about the door that was padlocked next to the bathroom?”

“Yes. She said she didn’t have the key and explained it was just a storage closet.”

“I have news for you. Behind that door is the spiral staircase from the basement.” Billy turned over the next poster board, which consisted of pictures of the staircase and the room.

“I love it. I want to go see it, now!”

“Wish we could, but it’ll have to wait till tomorrow when it’s light out. The previous owner shut off the electricity.” Billy removed the poster board and held it in his hands, blank side facing her.

“What you have there?” Alexandra asked standing and walking over to him. “From the way you are hugging, let me see,” she counted two boards in his hands, “you have something very interesting to show me.”

“Yes. But you must promise me that you’ll be honest with me. If you don’t like something, let me know.”

A huge smile appeared on her face. She knew exactly what he held in his hand. On of the boards had to be the menu, but what was the other?

“Promise. Now come on,” grabbing at the posters, “let me see.”

Billy exposed a picture of the inside of the cafe, “I computer generated this on what I envision the inside to look like.” Pointing to the table in the picture, “the dishes.”

Taking hold of the board, Alexandra was amazed at the detail Billy captured. “It looks great. I don’t understand how you were able to do this.”

“It’s a computer program. And what a pain in the ass it was to use. I worked hours on it until it was exactly what I wanted.”

“Looks great. I especially like how you converted the bar into a coffee station. I especially love the way you displayed the desserts under the glass counter.”

“It’s just a sample. Once we get in there we can do anything we want. I just wanted to have some sort of a spring board to work from.” Wrapping his free arms around Alexandra, he walked her back to the couch. “And lastly, here’s the tentative menu. I’m not sure of the design or layout. That I’ll leave up to you.”

Just as Billy handed her the poster board, her cell phone rang. When she didn’t recognize the number, she assumed it was work related and pressed talk.

“Alexandra?” The voice was husky and familiar.

“Speaking.”

“I’ve been trying to reach you for months.”

Alexandra’s mouth dropped opened. This couldn’t be happening. Not at this point in her life. Pressing mute on the phone, she turned to Billy. “I have to take this call. It’s work.”

“Sure. You can take it in my office. I’ll have a caramel latte ready when you’re done.”

“Thank you.” Standing, she walked into his den. “Dan?”

“Hey baby. Thought you forgot about me.”

“I’m sorry. I can’t talk to you. “

“Give me a few minutes to explain.”

Alexandra held her head with her free hand. This was a nightmare. “I’m busy right now.”

“We have to mend what we broke.”

“I’m hanging up.”

“I’ll stop by your house in the morning.”

“No, you will not.”

“I’ll expect you at my apartment at eight o’clock tomorrow morning. If not, I will be at your front door.”

“But…” Before she could finish, she heard the dial tone on the other end.

Best Friends

All my life,
I looked for that special man who will stop me in my tracks.
That special man who will make my heart skip a beat,
keep a permanent smile on my lips,
and turn my tears of sadness into tears of joy.

A lover who is also my best friend.
Who’s there for me in my darkest moments
and in my moments of glory.

A lover whose hugs are a priceless gift,
kisses which make me melt,
and a simple touch that makes my eyes glow.

That special man who listens, communicates, supports
and accepts me for me.

The most precious feature about that special someone
is knowing that when I close my eyes,
I’m wrapped in his arms,
waking up beside him,
and sharing tomorrow.

Waiting for Tonight

I wait for tonight to live my dreams of today.
To feel your fingers slid softly down my cheeks
bringing forth a shiver elevating throughout my heart.
I close my eyes and I’m lost in you,
nothing else seems to matter
There is silence except for the sound of your breathe
and the sound of our bodies pressing against each other’s.
I’m lost within you
from a single kiss and your gentle touch.
I yearn for your love
and the way I feel every time you take me in your arms.
I set the scene
with red candles
red wine out of a red stemmed clear goblets
and the finest red satin negligee.
I open my eyes
as the time is nearing for our rendezvous.
I can’t wait to feel the passion explode within me
from our first kiss at my front door.
I can’t get enough of you
as I kiss your lips, cheeks
and wrap my arms around your neck.
The wait is over when you arrive.
We let the passion take over,
for tonight is our dream.

Tuesday Tales - Love

Billy and Alexandra remained in each other’s arms under his black satin sheets. The smell of their lovemaking remained evident in the room, along with the smell of the meal Billy had cooked and they had yet to eat. Alexandra wanted to lay there all night with him. The warmth of Billy’s body felt good against hers. But the sound of Billy’s stomach growling caused him to stir.

Kissing the top of her head he said, “I’m starving.”

“I must admit, me too. I hope dinner isn’t ruined.”

“Not at all.”

Billy slid out of bed and put on his jeans. “I’ll be in the kitchen warming everything up. Take your time.”

Alexandra freshened up. The only thing that she hadn’t taken with her was her black eyeliner. Most of her makeup had been wiped away during their lovemaking. For tonight, the natural look would be in.

This time, she paid attention to the small details, which made the night so special. Earlier, she hadn’t noticed the centerpiece of fresh flowers and the cloth tablecloth and napkins that he had apparently ironed. There wasn’t a crease to be found.

“There’s my girl.” Billy pulled out Alexandra's chair for her. “I can’t wait for you to try all my specialties.”

“Neither can I. How many things have you prepared?” Alexandra asked placing her napkin on her lap.

“To be honest with you,” he placed a dish of salad in front of her along with a espresso colored wicker basket filled with bread on a matching navy blue cloth napkin. “I have an arterial motive behind you coming here for dinner tonight.”

Raising her eyes to meet his gaze she asked, “You mean there’s more to tonight than you making love to me?” Alexandra dropped her eyes to the salad and bit her bottom lip not wanting him to see her smirking. She loved kidding around with him.

Billy chuckled. “Yeah there is.” He handed her a fork. “Go ahead and try it. Let me know what you think?” he asked sitting down across for her.

Alexandra took a fork full and rolled her head from side to side. “Dear God, Billy. This is awesome. The dressing is unique. I taste a hint of fennel and red pepper.”

“You’re good. I crushed them both and just put a pinch of each.”

“I love it."

“I was thinking of putting it on our menu. What do you think?”

Alexandra paused for a beat. It took her a few minutes to comprehend what Billy was up to. This was no ordinary meal. This meal consisted of items he wanted to place on the menu. And the dishes too. “I think this would be a perfect item on the menu.”

Billy looked at her with a serious look drawn on his face. Alexandra knew that he wasn’t sure how to react to what she had revealed. After letting silence fill the room for a few minutes, Alexandra went hysterical.

“I knew what you were up to the minute I walked in. What gave it away were the different smells that lingered flawlessly together. I imagined walking into our café. The scents so light yet distinguishable.”

“Wow. You cease to amaze me.”

“There is more to the café than food.” Alexandra picked up her dish. “I love these. I think they would be perfect for the table.”

“I thought the same thing. But they are overpriced and we need a lot of them.”
Alexandra rested her hand on Billy’s. “I think we should go with it, the food, the dishes and silverware, down to the linens. I love everything you have picked out.”

“How did you know?” his eyes gleamed.

“I see it in your eyes and I feel your excitement.”

“But I want you to love it too.”

“I do.” Alexandra continued to eat her salad, took a piece of bread and dipped it into the oil. “Please sit down and eat with me.”

“I will. I just have to bring in the rest of the food.”
Sliding her chair back, Alexandra stood up.

“No.” Billy stood up and waited behind her chair for her to sit. “I want you to sit down and relax.”

“I want to help.”

“Nope. Just like you tell me. Now relax. I’ll be right back.”

Alexandra nodded. It felt good to have someone take care of her. Once they opened the café, they would be working their butts off every day probably with little down time for themselves.

Billy returned with all the food on a serving tray. He placed everything on the table, put the tray on the other end and made her plate.

“I thought this would be a start. I need for you to be honest with me. If you don’t think it would work in the café, then tell me and I’ll find something else to replace it.”

“I have a feeling that everything will be just perfect.” She stuck her fork into the bow tie macaroni and slid it into her mouth. “Oh dear God. This is incredible.”

“Thank you,” he grinned. “I have faith in my cooking, but I value your opinion. I don’t want to get too gourmet that it turns people off, and I want to keep the cost down, yet offer quality food.”

“I agree with you. And the appetizers,” she pointed, “look awesome. I love the carrot and tomato garnish.”

“So you think what I have prepared is okay.”

“Okay? I think it’s perfect. And I’m sure you have already put it on the menu.”

“No, I did not. I penciled it in, waiting for your approval, because we are in this together. I want you to be happy with everything.” He reached over and ran his fingers along her cheek.

Alexandra placed her hand over his and slid her fingers through his. “Are you going to show me the menu you started making?”

Billy grinned and kissed the top of her forehead. “I have it in my office.”

“So what are you waiting for? Go and get it. I can’t wait to see it and put my two sense in.”

“Be back in a minute.”
