One of my family tradition is Struffoli, aka Honey Balls. Oh how we love these. Sometimes we don't even add the honey to them. We pop them into our mouths like popcorn.
STRUFFOLI
INGREDIENTS
8 Cups Flour
1 Cup Sugar
1/4 tsp salt
1/4 tsp baking powder
1 tsp cinnamon
1 cup crisco (regular or butter flavored)
1 stick butter
9 eggss
2 Tbs whiskey
Mix all ingredients together with your hands. Texture is best when on the dry side. Roll into small balls the size of a nickel. In a deep fryer or macaroni pot, fill 1/3 the way with vegetable oil. Drop balls in by the spoon fall. Cook slowly until they are golden brown.
You can add honey on the side.
CHOCOLATE BALLS
1 1/2 Cups flour
3/4 cups sugar
3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tsp baking powder
1 tsp salt
6 Tbs. melted unsalted butter
2 large eggs
1/2 cup sugar for rolling balls
1/2 cup confectioners sugar for rolling balls
Mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder baking powder and salt. Stir in melted butter (cool) and eggs. Mix dough until a ball is formed. Cover and refrigerate for about 45 minutes.
Preheat over to 325 degrees. Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
Roll into balls the size of a quarter. Roll the ball into sugar and then into confectioners sugar. Place on cookie sheet about an inch apart, then flatten each ball with the back of a tablespoon. Bake for 10 minutes.. The cookies will puff up and be slightly cracked.

I never heard of these before. I've been looking for a recipe for a chocolate rum ball, though. I wonder if yours can be modified... I'll have to try the struffoli, though. Sounds interesting and yummy.
