With the holiday season upon us, it is our time to reflect on the year gone by and start getting together a list of resolutions for the New Year. This is one of my comic relief poems.   I refer to it as my quick pick-me-upper when my muse comes to a halt.   This is my version of The Twelve Days of Christmas. On the twelfth day of Christmas, my friends gave to me: Twelve hours of nonstop writing, Eleven great plots ideas with a twist, Ten true to life characters, Nine boxes of tissues, Eight books on writing, Seven sites on marketing, Six unique promo tips, Five colored highlighters, Four packages of post it notes, Three colorful loose-leaf binders, Two boxes of colorful paperclips, And a bottle of Procesecco to stimulate my mind. I want to share with you the spirit of Christmas for me this year.  This spring I met an incredible man who swept me off my feet.  Every year once the kids got older I would put up a four foot Christmas Tree, but not this year.  The man I met in the spring is now my husband and this is our first Christmas together.  My four foot tree turned into our eight foot tree fully decorated. It's hard to believe that miracles do happen if you believe. Christmas is about family, tradition and memories.  Through the years I've kept up with my grandmother's tradition of making Christmas cookies, which I might add I love doing and sharing. This past year, after being a single parent for 17 years, I met the love of my life and got married three months later.  Now we are making our own traditions and box full of memories. For the first time in over ten years, I have taken out Christmas decoration, which were packed away with no future to be seen again, expect for being passed on to my kids. But not this year.  My husband John and I combined our Christmas decorations, decorated all three floors of our townhouse transporting our home into a winter wonderland. My four foot tree is fully decorated in the den and his eight foot tree is in my living room with a collaboration of both our ornaments making for the perfect tree. For me, Christmas has always been a magical time of the year.  It was always a time for our family to get together.  One of our rituals was going to church on Christmas Eve, and on the way home driving around looking at all the houses decorated.  Then it was back home for the seven fish dinner along with endless desserts. To this day, I still keep up the tradition of driving around looking at the Christmas decorations with my kids.  The cookie process is a week long adventure.  I love making a dozen different kinds of cookies.  The top of the list are my seven layer cookies and chocolate crinkles. It's amazing at how fast this year has flown by. Nothing is like the feeling of unwrapping a present or reading a good book.  Whether you prefer holding a paperback in your hand or cuddling your kindle or nook, it's a wonderful feeling sitting on my bed at night with two of my cats at my feet. Christmas has always been my favorite holiday.   What I love the most is decorating the house and baking cookies.   The scent of cookies lingers through the house for days.   One of my favorite cookies to bake is the seven layer cookie.   They are fun and colorful.   I love making trays of cookies and bringing them around to my friends. The scent of freshly baked brownies still lingered through the house. Alexandra sat at the dining room table with a mug of homemade hot chocolate with mini marshmallows floating in the center. In the middle of the table was an angel candleholder, which housed a bay berry scented candle. This Christmas she found the magic that had been missing. When she woke up, she came down to a ten foot fully decorated Christmas tree up, except for the top. Billy brought an untraditional top, a Santa hat with both their names written in multi-colored glitter and lifted her so she could put it on top of the tree.
