Hi. Welcome to Tuesday Tales. This week's word prompt is tight. Pia is found herself in a pickle. Here's the continuing drama.
Pia paced through her living room and kitchen. Lisa had called her earlier, telling
her to sit tight, she was on her way home. Home? She was
only gone two days. This wasn’t
good. When she left, Lisa told her
it might take her a couple of days to find something out. Now, just under forty-eight hours
later, Pia found it hard to believe she found out everything about her surprise
marriage to Larry.
During these two days, Pia spoke to Lorenzo at least four
times a day. He had pitched a one
hitter the night before and was surprised to hear Pia stayed up to watch
it. Why wouldn’t she? She hadn’t slept through the night
since Lisa left. As a kid, she
hated these late night games when they played on the west coast. One game, back in the early eighties,
she had stayed up until three o’clock in the morning watching an extra inning
game. She loved baseball. She
loved Lorenzo.
When the key turned in her door, her heart skipped a
beat. Lisa was about to walk into
her house with the news she had been waiting for. The words, you are legally
married to that bastard, haunted her mind, driving her absolutely crazy.
The look on Lisa’s face said it all. She stood emotionless in the doorway
with her electric blue briefcase.
“Oh no. That
look isn’t good.” Pia stood in place, her right foot shaking.”
Lisa placed her briefcase on the cocktail table before
giving Pia a hug. “Let’s sit
down. I’ll explain everything to
you.”
“Oh man, I don’t like the sound of this. I have to go get something to drink.”
“No drinks,” Lisa snapped.
“I wasn’t talking alcohol. I was going to get us a bottle of Pellegrino water.”
“Sorry.”
Pia walked into the kitchen holding back her tears. It wasn’t about Lisa snapping at her,
it was about knowing what she was about to tell her, that she
had gotten herself neck deep into a horrible situation.
The kitchen towel served as a tissue to wipe the tears from
her eyes. Lisa didn’t tell her
anything yet and already she couldn’t keep her composure. All that kept going through her mind
was losing Lorenzo, the first man who she truly had strong feelings for. With Lorenzo she felt alive and at
peace with herself.
Pia sat down next to Lisa, placing the two bottles of water
on the table. “I’m assuming you
have bad news,” she said crossing her legs and rocking back and forth.
“Yes and no.”
“What does that mean?”
Pia asked opening her bottle of water.
Lisa took the marriage license out of her briefcase, along
with another license. “Legally you are, technically you aren’t.”
“What the hell does that mean?”
“Larry forged the license with an out of date seal. Now to prove it.”
He forged it?! Well that no good so and so.
ReplyDeleteYAY! Lisa to the rescue! Hoping she can get out of it before Lorenzo finds out. Love this story.
ReplyDeleteOh, yay! A loophole! I hope they're able to prove it!
ReplyDeleteLarry-is-a-slimeball. Come on Lisa! Find a way to prove it's a forgery - please...
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, I hope Larry gets what should be coming to him and that Pia get's her heart's desire. Enjoyed this.
ReplyDeleteThat ending is a relief
ReplyDeleteHopefully Lisa is a good investigator. Pia is lucky to have such a good friend to depend on. MJP
